4 THINGS YOU SHOULD LEARN ABOUT OUTDOOR SHOOTS.

By  |

Good morning lovely you. Hope you had a good night rest?

I am among the xyz percent of human beings in the world who can be shy when they want to be or should I say, I can be off especially if I am not comfortable with my environment. An outdoor shoot is one thing that can be very interesting and yet challenging. An outdoor photoshoot is simply a picture taken outside a studio. It can be in a market, church, street, etc. The beauty of an outdoor shoot is that it can help you get really creative and the beautiful things to create are limitless. Studio photos are great but an outdoor photoshoot even when it’s not great has its own beauty and strikes a chord. I had one in the streets of Lagos recently and I had to apply some techniques to forget the stares and the passerby comments. Let’s quickly get down to I did it and how you can make it a wonderful experience.

TEAM

This is definitely the most important to me. If you have lively team, they can help talk you out of your shyness or maybe the other way round. The photographer, director, stylist, makeup artist and every other person involved. When they are lively and don’t have some form of attitude, you will do well on set. They help you stay comfortable and make you understand it’s not just you but everyone. Amazing feeling.

DISTRACTION

By this, I mean positive distraction. In an outdoor shoot, people will make a lot of comments and even stare at you a million times. The best way to get this off your head is being in the moment. At that moment, think of who you are, where you want to be. Think of yourself as some huge personality that has some positive vibes in the people. It’s not being fake. After all, if you keep seeing yourself that way, you will become it someday. So why not open your mind and celebrate yourself. For me, music works. Put your FAVOURITE songs in a playlist and have your team play it. It helps you express yourself better. It comes to some people naturally but music does the magic for me. Your team can be a major source of inspiration too. They can make you laugh or make you give funny looks. So you see why it’s top on my list.

ENVIRONMENT

This plays a major role when having an outdoor shoot. In the modeling scene, it is called a location. Depending on where the shoot is taking place, there are things you have to consider. Is the area rowdy? Is it safe? Will your costume raise an uproar? Are there authorities to meet? Make sure you have all these things in place. In Lagos, people just go into the markets or streets and have their photoshoot and no one disturbs anyone. But I can’t say for other areas where there are religious and cultural extremists. The theme of the photoshoot is also very dependent except the photoshoot tends to achieve something creative and uncommon.

ORIGINALITY

It is very important to be yourself on set. Enjoy the flow. Give your best. Slay and let the camera get the best of you. Get comfortable with the music and stay professional. You have to believe in yourself to give a wonderful result. You can only get better with constant practice. Very important.
